The needs of Paediatrics and Gynecology surgery patients are met on a combined services Unit at the McLaren site of North Bay General Hospital
The care of Paediatric patients up to the age of 17 years are provided by a team consisting of skilled nursing staff, three pediatricians, family physicians, a recreational therapist, a social worker, a dietician and spiritual care workers. The health care needs of children and youth from the city of North Bay and district are met by both in-patient and out-patient services. This Unit serves also as a district Paediatric referral centre for surrounding communities as far north as New Liskeard and south to Huntsville.
The paediatricians’ offices are located on the first floor of the McLaren site at North Bay General Hospital. This close physical alliance supports a seamless and efficient approach to care provision both in the office and on the Unit.
The postoperative gynecological surgery needs of women form North Bay and district is met by this team of skilled nurses as well. The care team also consists of four gynecologists, a discharge planner, a dietician and spiritual care workers. Typical lengths of stay postoperatively range from one to three days and our team works closely with community services to promote a smooth transition to community support when required.
